Puppet regime is no answer

Iraq is descending into chaos and the repressive reaction will hardly help.

Is there another way? Rather than callng their opponents "terrorists" as they blast at them with terrifying modern weaponry, the coalition could seek to problem-solve in the Middle East without violence.

If the coalition is serious about peacemakibng, rater than mere posturing - it should embrace the international law system it has so far flouted.

Conflict-resolution teams of UN peacekeepers could provide the necessary stability and impartiality which has so far been lacking.

Real democracy in Iraq will only come when the population as a whole feels it is being truly represented. Installing a puppet regime which has little or no support from the majority of the Iraqi population is doomed to failure.

We need to make Bush and Blair aware of this at the ballot box and through peaceful protest.

It is time to put an end to the illegal occupation of Iraq and make some real progress towards peace and democracy.
