From the Eastern Daily Press, Saturday, May 22, 2004:
JIM DEACON,
Glebe Close, Thetford.
In 1946-8, I was a colonial police constable in Palestine.
Then and since, Israeli atrocities - and I do not use the word lightly - towards Palestinian Arabs have been common. Yet the United Nations has done nothing, other then admininster a mild rebuke from time to time.
Today's Israelis are from many nations, and not native to Palestine. They are there simply becauseof their religion.
Yet for well over half a century, the Israelis have conducted a war against the Palestinians, and against other countries surrounding Palestine, even to taking some of these countries' land.
How can the UN and the Christian world - whose religion sprang from Palestine - do nothing to stop Israeli's continued aggression towards a defenceless people?
It beggars belief that my country, Britain, can be led into war against a known tyrant, Saddam Hussein, yet cannot take acton against Israel.
Should this ever happen, I will be proud once more to be known as a member of that once 'Great' Britain which dared, and won alone, many a victory in bygone days.
