From the Eastern Daily Press, Wednesday, July 28, 2004:

Forces defend capitalism

NICK VINEHILL.

Southgate Court, Snettisham.

Tory shadow defence spokesman Sir Nicholas Soames last week said that Labour's massive defence cuts "are an attack on everybody who loves our Armed Forces who defend our freedom and democracy".

No one should be won over by this pious drivel!

The problem is that there is very little coverage within the media of why well-militarised countries like the US and any other 'poodle' of theirs have to attack less defended ones in the first place.

Developed capitalism, albeit a free economic system on paper, can only survive by occupying less powerful countries and seizing their profitable resources.

The British armed forces are there to defend capitalism and the state.

If we are really to display our "love" for our troops, we should support their rights to be properly unionised like other workers and to be able to question the merits of any deployment they are called upon to undertake particularly when that action is illegal!
