This site owes a great debt to him, with his accurate - some would say, pedantic - insistence that the web pages resulting from his transcriptions were true representations of the feel of the original entries.
With his death in 2007 the flow of White's 1854 transcriptions to this site came to a sudden end, and now it is to my great regret that I have little in detail of his life tale that I can record.
He lived in Australia, my vague memory suggests this was in Perth, but without doubt he had a great love of his native Norfolk, to which he made annual visits - connected, I think, with youth club activities.
I met him only once, when, on one of his visits to England, my elder grandson and I met him, in my camper, at Thetford and spent a morning showing him around my favourite sites in the Breckland and its great Thetford Forest, my favourite area of Norfolk, (I think HIS favourites were west of Swaffham, [see his contributions to my web-site, indicated as White's 1854), but I came to regard him as an old friend.
With his demise I am ashamed that I cannot write more of an obituary - and that I did not prepared this page immediately I became aware of his death - but if any reader can contribute more of his life history I shall be extremely grateful.
