MOULTON is a parish, the houses in which are much scattered, 12 miles east from Norwich, 9 west from Yarmouth and 2 north from Cantley station, in the Southern division of the county, Walsham hundred, Blofield union, Norwich county court district, rural deanery of Blofield and archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich. The church of St. Mary is a very ancient structure of stone in the Early Norman style, and has chancel, nave and round tower with 1 bell. The register dates from the year 1539. The living is a vicarage, yearly value 153 with 34 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of the Viscountess Massereene and Ferrard and held since 1853 by the Rev. Augustus Fredric Bellman B.A. of St. Peter's College, Cambridge. The poor have the benefit of 18 annually, arising from the rent of an allotment of 9 acres, awarded them in 1803. The Viscountess Massereene and Ferrard, lady of the manor Mr.Francis Allard and the Rev. — Fiske are the principal landowners. The soil is light mixed; subsoil. clay and gravel, The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats &c. The nunber of acres is 1,018; rateable value, 1,859; and the population in 1881 was 240.
