LITTLE PLUMSTEAD is a vilage and parish, 5 miles east from Norwich and 3 north-west from Brundall station, in the Southern division of the county, Blofield hundred and union, Norwich county court district, rural deanery of Blofield and archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich. The church of SS. Protasius and Gervase is a long low flint building in the Perpendicular style, and consists of nave, south porch and round tower completely covered with ivy: it contains several monuments and has a handsome stained east window. The regiser dates from the year 1559. The living is a rectory, yearly value 468, with 53 acres of glebe and residenve, in the gift of John Penrice esq. and held since 1863 by the Rev. Charles Berners Penrice M.A. of Trinity College, Cambridge. Plumstead Hall is the property of Sir Henry J. Stracey bart. J.P. and stands in a park of 160 acres: it is at present occupied by Gilbert Hardinge Strachey esq J.P. The principal landowners are the Dean and Chapter of Norwich, Sir Henry J. Strachey bart. Major Penrice and Mr. W. F. Green. The soil is mixed; subsoil, clay. Here are brick and tile works belonging to W. F. Green esq. The chief crops are wheat and barley. The area is 1,395 acres; rateable value, 2,322; and the population in 1881 was 329.
