RIDLINGTON is a parish and village about 4½ miles eastt from North Walsham railway station, and 14 south-east from Cromer, and not far from the sea, in the Northern division of the county, Tunstead hundred, Smallburgh union, North Walsham county court district, rural deanery of Waxham, archdeaconry of Norfolk and diocese of Norwich. The church of St. Peter is of flint; it has chancel, nave, and a square tower having 1 bell, with figures of The Four Evangelists serving as pinnacles, and south porch. The register dates from the year 1557. The living is a discharged rectory, with East Ruston annexed, joint yearly value £2085, with 11 acres of glebve in the gift of the Earl of Kimberley and the Dean and Canons of Windsor alternately, and held since 1881 by the Rev. Wm. Muskett Hobson of St. Catherine's College,, Cambridge, who resides at North Walsham, there being no parsonage house annexed to this benefice. Mrs. Shepherd is lady of the manor. George Edward Cubitt esq. of Honing, and John Bush esq, of Walcott, are the principal landowners. The soil is various; subsoil, sand, gravel and clay. The chief crops are wheat, oats and barley. The area is 590A. 3R. 13P.; rateable value, £1,129; and the population in 1881 was 195.

A School Board for the united parishes if Ridlington & East Ruston of 5 members formed in 1875. A school at East Ruston, but some children attend the school at Witton
