Francis White's History, Gazetteer, and Directory, of Norfolk 1854, pp. 830-831

ROCKLAND (ALL SAINTS AND ST. ANDREW), are two adjoining parishes, 4 miles W. of Attleborough, and extending into Rockland St. Peters. The former comprises 375 souls, and the latter 115 ; but of the former 75 persons were returned as in the Wayland Union Workhouse. The parishes, jointly, contain 1,585 acres of land, mostly the property of Sir W. B. Smijth, Bart. Rockland gives its name to a Deanery. St. Andrew's Church has been dilapidated several centuries, and the benefice consolidated with All Saints' Church, a small edifice with a square tower and three bells. It has recently been thoroughly repaired, refitted with open seats, and a new gallery added. The discharged and consolidated rectories of All Saints and St. Andrew's are valued in the King's book at £10 19s. 4d., and in 1831 at £1,025 per annum. The Rev. Addison B. Hemsworth, M.A., is patron and incumbent. A National school was built in 1852 by subscriptions. The Fuel Allotment, 26a. 2r. 35p., was awarded to the poor of the two parishes in 1814, and is now let for £20 a year. Two cottages and 3 roods of land, given to the poor by an unknown donor, were sold, and the money applied in building the Union Workhouse. In the following Directory, those marked 1 are in All Saints ; 2, St. Andrew's ; and 3, St. Peter's Parish. Transcription Copyright © the late A.J.
