TRIMINGHAM, 5 miles E.S.E. of Cromer, and 6 miles N. of North Walsham, is a parish and village on the lofty sea cliffs, and has 51 houses, 243 souls, and 480 acres of land, mostly belonging to T. F. and Chas. Buxton Esqrs. ; but Lord Suffield is lord of the manor. The sea is making continual encroachments on the cliffs in this locality, and two farm houses were washed away about 30 years ago. The Church, dedicated to St. John, was in ancient times visited by pilgrims, who came with great offerings to see the head of St. John the Baptist, which the wily priests pretended they had got. The rectory, valued in the King's book at £6, has been augmented with £200, Queen Anne's Bounty. The tithes are commuted for £142, of which, £7 10s. is paid to the rector of Sidestrand. There were upwards of 4a. of glebe, but more than half of it has been wasted by the sea. The Queen, as Duchess of Lancaster, is patroness, and the Rev. Robt. Steele is the incumbent. T. F. and C. Buxton, Esqrs. support a school which they built in 1850. Here is a coast guard station, with a chief officer and five men. On the summit of a lofty hill are the ruins of an old beacon, which commands an extensive prospect of sea and land.
