The Will of Lawrence (2) Shorte
of Ridlington

In the name of god amen

This xxx th daye of July in the xliiij th yere of the reyne of our souveringe Lady Elizabeth by the grace of god, of England, France, and Scotland Quene defender of the faythe I Lawrence Shorte of Ridlington in the county of Norff a labourer although sicke in body yet whole in memorye praysed be allmyghtie god therfor, doe make and ordayne this my p(er)fect testamt. and containinge therein my Last will revoking all other by me before made in manner and forme followinge with First I doe comend my sowle unto almightie god my saviour Jesus Christe and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Rydlington aforsaid. Item. I give and bequeathe to Marye my wiff, my tenement with my Land hereto belonginge lyinge in Rydlington and to her heirs ex(ecu)tors or ass(ign)es. for ever. Item I give and bequeathe xii s the same Marye my wiff, the some of xxx s of good and lawfull Englishe money which is bequeathed unto me myn ex(ecu)tors or ass(igne)s by virtue of the testamt. of Nicholas Shorte late of Norwich, my brother as by the said will yt doth more manifestlie depend. Item I give to John Shorte the younger, my brother, his ex(ecu)tors, ad(vis)ors, ass(igne)s xii s vjd of Lawfull englishe money to be paid within fower years after my decease in the church porch of Rydlington aforsaid. Item I doe moreover give unto the above named John Shorte other vij s vi d to be paid unto him, his ex(ecu)tors ad(vis)ors or ass(igne)s within five years after my decease in the church porch of Ridlington aforsaid. Item I give and bequeathe to Clement Shorte my brother xii s vi d of good and lawfull englishe money to be paid within sixe years after my decease to him his heires and ex(ecu)tors ad(vis)ors or ass(igne)s in the church porch of Rydlington aforsaid. Item I doe moreover give unto the above said Clement Shorte the ex(ecu)tors ad(vis)ors, or ass(igne)s other vii s vi d to be paid within seven years after my decease in the church porche of Rydlington aforsaid Item I give and bequeathe to (erased by bleedthrough, probably William, see below) Shorte my brother his ex(ecu)tors ad(vis)ors or ass(igne)s iiiid of lawfull Englishe money to be paid within eighte years after my decease in the church porch of Rydlington aforsaid. Item I doe moreover give unto Wm. Shorte above named his heires ad(vis)ors or ass(igne)s other vii s to be paid within ix years after my decease in the church porch of Ridlington aforsaid. I give and bequeathe unto Robt. Shorte my brother iiij s of lawfull Englishe money to be paid to him within ten years after my decease if he liveth, in the church porche of Ridlington aforsaid. Item I doe moreover give vii s the above named Robt. Shorte other iiij s of lawfull Englishe money to be paid to him within xij yeers after my decease if he livethe in the church porch of Ridlington aforsaid. Item I give unto Margaret Shorte the daughter of Thomas Shorte my brother and my goddaughter the some of vj s of lawfull Englishe money to be paid her within xij years after my decease if she livethe there in the church porche of Rydlington aforsaid. Item I give and bequeathe unto John, Thomas, Aggas also, and Catherine Parrent the children of Stephen Parrent the some of xiid to eache of them to be paid them within xiii ten years after my decease if they live till then in the church porch of Rydlington aforsaid. Item I give and bequeathe unto William Turner the sonne of John Turner of Ridlington the some of ij s of lawfull Englishe money to be paid him within three years after my decease if he liveth in the church porch of Rydlington aforsaid. The residue of my goodes and chattels unbequeathed I give and bequeathe to Mary my wiff, whom I make and ordayne my sole ex(ecu)trix she to receve in debtes and paye my debtes and legaces. These be mye witnesses James Turner Wm. Drake and Xtofer (Christopher) Linsband.
